My Favorite Time of Year! Time for Baking!

Finals are over and a new term started 3 days after the last one ended... Yeah, it is a crazy schedule. But now I am on my Christmas break and am now catching up on the baking I have not been able to do for about 3 months. I am in heaven.

Today we had a Holiday party with my second graders. Dustin came and played the guitar and sang Christmas songs with them while I passed out these cookies. They were so fun to make and pretty dang tasty. My kids were pretty much bouncing off the walls after our little party. I guess they call them "sugar" cookies for a reason.

It has now become a tradition to make our decorations on our Christmas tree. This tradition may have to do with the fact that we are broke but we have decided that it is pretty precious too. The only problem with making gingerbread men and living in California is that it is so moist the gingerbread men will get too soft and fall off the tree. I am pretty sure we are left with about 5 hanging and started with about 20.

I asked Dustin what we should give to our neighbors for Christmas gifts and he suggested these...

These started as an experiment but have now become a favorite. They are chocolate walnut and butterscotch pecan cookies. I found that if you roll the cookie dough in nuts and then bake the cookies stay nice and thick, super soft on the inside but have a nice crunch on the outside.

Hopefully more to come! We are driving to Utah on Friday to spend the holiday with Dustin's family. There will be a lot of goodness going on in the kitchen. I can't wait to share it with you! Have a very Merry Christmas!!

  1. I used the snicker doodle recipe you posted awhile back to bake my Christmas cookies this year. They turned out great and received rave reviews. Thanks so much for sharing that recipe :)
