Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie...

Well I went a little crazy yesterday... Nothing new :)
I decided that I need to work on my pie skills but couldn't decide which flavor I should make. Why not make them all? I had a whole bag of cherries that needed to be used so I started with cherry pie. All the recipes I looked up failed me so I decided to go and get a plethora or different fruits and make a few mini pies. The pies go as follows...

Cherry Strawberry Rhubarb pie (adapted from this recipe)
Fresh Strawberry Pie (adapted from this recipe)
Peach Apricot Lattice Pie (my own concoction)
Lemon Meringue pie (adapted from this recipe) I had a lot more filling left over with this one so I got creative at the end

FYI: These AMAZING flowers you see here (my favorite flowers in the world) were a surprise from Dustin on Friday night. Candlelight dinner, flowers, and a new dress... where is he trying to go with this? :) He is so wonderful!

Cups of Clouds and Sunshine :) YUM!

  1. Okay, so WHY aren't you making big $ with this?? You're amazing! AND, why in the world are you two still so skinny? Those are two questions I need answered...

  2. Very nice! I'm allergic to most all fruits in their raw form, so I get my fruit fix from pastries (especially lemon flavored). Can I request some advice from you? I made my first go at homemade egg noodles on Saturday, but I couldn’t get them to cook through all the way. Thinking I had cut them too thick, I fished them out of the chicken stock, chopped ‘em all in half length-wise, and continued boiling them, but the middles still remained raw. Any suggestions?

  3. Oh my! I don't know what I would do if I was allergic to raw fruit! I feel for you. About the egg noodles. I have never actually made them myself but now you have made me want to try them! From reading a variety of recipes the only thing I could come up with was maybe they were not dry enough when you put them in the pot to boil. The noodles should dry on a paper towl for about 2 hours before they are cooked. I will have to try them out though! Sounds fun! Let me know if you try them again and if you have any tips for me. :)

  4. Ah ha! Drying the noodles...yes, I think you're absolutely right. That was probably my downfall. Too bad I spent $10 on a chicken to make the stock, and then ruined the soup with my nasty noodles. I’m a pretty good cook, but not a very good baker. Case in point, my burnt on the edges/mushy in the middle banana bread I made last night. Not very impressive. I really need some practice…and, a nice Kitchen Aid mixer wouldn’t hurt either :) I'll let you know how Noodle Making Round 2 goes.

  5. All I can say is . . . that's got to be pretty tough on Dustin. I mean, being around the great aroma of freshly baked goods almost daily and sampling all of the amazing food creations of Ashley Mackay. I feel sorry for the guy. :)

  6. Hi Ashley-

I am Dustin's cousin Camberley (Poulsen) Woods (John's daughter). I live over in the great state of Arizona with the rest of "the clan". I l-o-v-e cooking, so when I stumbled upon your cooking blog I had to explore. I noticed you reference “Closet Cooking” in your post. I love this guy. I am always trying out my own variations of his recipes. He is truly not afraid to experiment with different ingredients. Anyways, keep up the good work. I will definitely check back often.
